George Mason Was He a Hypocrite?

George Mason was a brilliant man and very much helped in the building of our nation. However since he was a large slave owner with a huge plantation many people believe he was a hypocrite and although he is considered a celebrity of history to Virginians, not so many Virginia blacks and black Americans agree.

He believed in freedoms and liberty for all white, rich, male landowners. And many black Americans today as well as many who study our history who are white say that George Mason was a hypocrite. Indeed, one could say he was a hypocrite wanting only freedoms for rich white males and enslaving blacks to do his bidding and run his plantations.

He wanted freedom and liberty and he wanted slaves. And that is what he had and so from a philosophical standpoint you have to ask yourself was George Mason a hypocrite; yes or no.

Now then, in his day he was typical of wealthy landowners who were white and many people believed as he did, yet by today's standard s he was a full-blown hypocrite to the 9th degree, which is pretty high up. The legacy of George Mason lives on and he was a big contributor to our nation in many many ways, yet he was also a slave owner and that my friends is simply the way it is. Please consider this in 2006.
