Is Timing the Secret of Success?

Success is often viewed as a magic potion. Market demand has always been there, but no-one has worked out the recipe or how to bottle it.

On further investigation the ingredients are not that easy to replicate and include: determination, enthusiasm, perseverance, stamina, hard work and a focus bordering on obsession. Yet there is often one other ingredient that successful people in all walks of life mention - being in the right place at the right time. Sometimes this alone is enough; sometimes without this single ingredient none of the other qualities will count.

Given the importance of this ingredient, how can it be bottled and handed out for the benefit of us all? Whilst success can never be guaranteed, there are tools which can significantly increase the possibility of being in the right place at the right time. Astrology is one of them.

Astrology? What, Horoscopes? Is this some kind of joke? No, not at all. Ask yourself why millions of people read their Horoscopes, even though the advice they contain is highly generalised and not especially useful. Somewhere deep inside we know that having advance knowledge of the future will enable us to be more effective and to have 'the edge'. Forewarned as they say, is forearmed.

So what is it that Astrology< /a> can predict and how can it enable you to be in the right place at the right time? Firstly it is a great predictor of trends. The growth of computing, the impact of technology on the film and music industries and the expansion of international travel could all be predicted by Astrology. If you can spot a trend in advance, you are well placed to take advantage of it.

Knowing your time, date and place of birth allows you to understand and predict cycles that are unique to you. The natal chart will also reveal the areas of life in which you are most likely to achieve success. This can help ensure that energy is focussed into areas where it will produce the most effective results.

We all spend time developing skills and expertise in our line of work. If motivated, we may also try to develop ourselves in other ways. In the ag e of the self-help book, there is no shortage of advice and it can be hard to know what to do first and what will be most beneficial. Nothing works for everyone, but spending time wisely is essential. It is your most valuable resource.

Reading your Horoscope is not really going to help you, but understanding the underlying principles and learning some basic Astrology could be more useful than you think. If time is your most valuable asset and timing is the secret of success, don't dismiss Astrology out of hand. It has been used by people in positions of power for cen turies.

Whenever a famous person, be they a President or a member of the Royal Family, is known to have consulted an astrologer, the popular press turns them into a laughing stock. All kinds of jokes are made in the media, but the people who use Astrology don't really mind. The less people who use it, the more of an advantage they have. When you hold the magic potion in your hand, you really don't mind whether other people believe it or not.

European Perceptions of Native Americans

Initial European perceptions of Native Americans viewed them as uncivilized savages who, with time and effort, could be educated and assimilated into European culture. Christopher Columbus reported his opinion of the Indians in the following manner:

They should be good servants and of quick intelligence, since I see that they very soon say all that is said to them, and I believe that they would easily be made Christians, for it appears to me that they had no creed. Our Lord willing, at the time of my depArture, I will bring back six of them to your Highness, that they may learn to talk (Hurtado 46).

This passage shows that Columbus believed the Indians intelligent and would be easily converted to European ways, but did not think them equal to Europeans. Columbus demonstrates his ethnocentricity by disregarding Native American religious bel iefs, and by assuming that because they did not speak a European language they could not talk.

Europeans viewed the Indians as having inferior cultural practices such as their laws, government, economics, mode of living, religion, property ownership, and education/writing. However, the Europeans believed that these cultural traits of the Native Americans could with little difficulty be changed to resemble European cultures. In 1620, the first college for Native Americans was established to educate Indians in European ways, and in 1640, Harvard opened a college for Indians. This proves that the main objective of the Europeans was to assimilate the Native Americans into European culture by way of education. Europeans justified their conquest of the Indians because they believed they had a divine purpose to convert them to Christianity. Also Europeans believed they could redeem the savages in much the same way the Roman Empire had conquered and civilized the rest of Euro pe.

Indians did not come to be viewed as inherently different in regards to color until the mid-eighteenth century and the label red was not used until the mid-nineteenth century. Some causes of the changing perception were an increase of Europeans, bloody conflicts and atrocities, codification of laws designed to control Native peoples, and the view of Europeans began to unify as being white.

The changing perception of Indians also caused a change in how Europeans dealt with them. In the beginning, Europeans intermarried with them, and used teachers and missionaries to convert them to European culture and religion. Later, education ceased and Europeans moved to subjugate the Indians through displacement on reservations and by war/genocide.

The Dawes Act of 1877 reverted back to assimilation of the Indians through education and the practice of farming. The reservation lands were divided up into individual sections for private ownership. Also the federal gov ernment came to believe that educating the Indian children would be the quickest and most effective manner to destroy Indian lifestyles. Boarding schools were established for Indian children to teach them American values and customs, while eroding their Native American beliefs.

At first contact, Europeans believed Indians could be assimilated into European culture. Then they shifted to the removal and reservation policy. In the late 1800s, Americans returned to assimilationist policies, and in the 20th century Indians have struggled to resist total assimilation by striving to maintain their cultural and religious beliefs.

Hisstory Herstory and a tributeBlack History Month

During Black History month everyone will remember the long line of history left to celebrate, and look toward the future of history being written with the Kings and queens, leaders, orators, champions and heralds of a great nation of people. Amongst these great people are those who may or may not get a full appreciation of the effect they have made on history and I want to dedicate this article to a cheerleader for children, poetry and motivation in the person of LaKisha Marie Tanksley.

I feel blessed and deeply moved to have met LaKisha in Chicago while working to close the digital divide thru educating people to the uses of technology. The clich of - this being a small world has never rung true in the fact of being able to meet and work with LaKisha while in Chicago, a humongous city of hard working people with a unique vision. Chicago has given us a some history makers in it's own right Mayor Harold Washington, Author Richard Wright, Explorer Jean- Baptist-Point Du Sable the founder of Chicago, Talk Show host Oprah Winfrey and many more. After working with Lakisha for a too short while I knew in my heart that she was in the right place at the right time. Since her passing in the summer of 2005 I also know that she will be missed by thousands and hopefully millions that her work was able to touch.

Lakisha had a vision of motivating those around her in the same path as Oprah Winfrey and Gwendolyn Brooks. Her poetry touched and inspired those who read the living words she brought to light not only from herself but from children she worked tirelessly to inspire and reminded me of Cleopatra VII, Queen of Kenet an incredible linguist in her own lifetime.

In searching for wisdom her thirst for was just as royally steadfast as Makeda, Queen of Sheba. LaKisha would tell me about her quests to find ways to inspire others thru poetry and motivation for all those who thought life was dark and hopeless.< /p>

Poetry was a beacon of light for LaKisha like Behanzin often referred to as the King Shark, a surname which symbolized strength strength and widom. LaKisha used words in her poetry to give strength and wisdom to her readers. She fed her poetry to anyone who would listen. Thankfully words were not something that just lay on a page, words were for inspiration, action, consolation, and comfort to LaKisha as anyone who came around her would immediately find out. If you stood still for a few minutes around LaKisha, your going to hear some poetic or motivational words - definite proof of her having the King Shark as an ancestor with his massive contribution to his time and ours.

During the summer of 2005 we lost another member of our motivational cheerleaders, especially one who would have proven to become an icon of motivation. I close with an excerpt from her collection of Poems - Bridges of Hope, a fitting title for a book from a fantastic cheerleader of hope - Mrs. LaKisha Tanksley-Simpson, Poet and Motivational Speaker, Chicago, IL

I leave everyone with a small excerpt from one of her books - Bridge of Hope: an anthology of motivational Poems and stories, with the 2nd book titled - There is an Oasis : a collection of motivational Poems.

From the book 'Bridge of Hope', a poem titled 'I Am Destined for Greatness'

I am destined for greatness.

I am determined to succeed.

I have what it takes to get what I need.

Because success is the core of my existence;

The manisfestation will appear with time.

Determination is what my dreams are made of When I seek I will find.

A Nation of Voyeurs

Five years ago when Tehelka.com introduced India to the concept of a sting operation, we were all jubilant. It showed us that finally transperancy was on its way.A very unfortunate Bangaru Laxman was caught with his hand in the cookie jar.And something that we had always known was proved yet again, namely, politicians are corrupt. But soon these optimistic musings were killed when most of those implicated by the sting operation continued their careers in active politics. Tehelka, just as its name implied, had started the age of Sensationalism although accountability still seemed elusive.

Media gurus and spinmasters realised that the Indian psyche loved this concept of a sneak peek. This lead to many scandals which were bordering on obscenity and definitely in the realm of bad taste. From sting operations on B-grade Bollywood character artistes to unknown television artists, we saw it all.News channels covered these faux pas of the relatively rich and famous as though it was credible news.Obscene MMS's regularly pop up featuring Bollywood starlets and the girl-next-door.I guess the decades of prudish Media coverage lead to this voyeristic streak in all of us.

In all fairness,we cannot blame the Media agencies alone for this turn of events, as they just supply the public's demand. Our nation stands at this critical juncture in History with increasing global clout and also increasing global aspirations of its citizens. But as the values subscribed to by the mass Media change, the public perception s are confusingly muddled.

This is definitely not the face of the Brave New World.Page 3 culture is well and good, but I hope we come to realise that there is a fine line between Celebrity worship and outright voyeurism. The only thing the Tehelka sting operation gave birth to was poor standards in journalism and of course provided a means for Tarun Tejpal to gain enough prominence to let loose his enormously poor contribution to literature, Alchemy of Desire.

Bloomsday Celebrating James Joyce's Ulysses in Dublin and Around the World

James Joyce is one of the most celebrated writers in history and for good reason. Though his Finnegans Wake is incomprehensible, it is not more so than a Beethoven Symphony. But we dont ask a Beethoven Symphony to be easily understood because it isnt written in words.

We do however ask a painting to be understandable. Even though some of the greatest achievements in art history have been abstract, a very large percentage of the worlds people just wont have it , including Andy Rooney and Morley Safer of 60 Minutes.

Picasso is regarded as the most talented and creative painter in modern times, with the possible exception of Matisse. Even so, to this day, I come across people who refuse to believe that the giant sculpture in Chicago by Picasso is a representation of a head of a woman, even though that is its name.

Stravinskys dramatic music for The Rite of Spring scandalized Paris when it opened. Later it was a big part of a Walt Disney movie, Fantasia and children flocked to it. Of course the dinosaurs didnt hurt the box office.

And now to Bloomsday. It is not for me to say whether Ulysses or Finnegans Wake is the greater masterpiece. But Bloomsday is a celebration of James Joyce. It is named for his main character in Ulysses, Leopold Bloom, and the date is chosen because it is the date on which Ulysses takes place in Dublin in 1904.

Enthusiasts around the world gat her together, raise their pints of Guinness and sing the praises of the great Genius who brought us the immortal Molly, the unbearable Buck Mulligan, the musical girls Gold and Bronze, the mysterious man in the MacIntosh and others almost as numerous as the characters in The Simpsons.

Convocations (read mobs of plastered fans in Pubs) are held in Dublin and other major cities of the world wherein one can present and pretend to listen to papers about deep and Orwellia n interpretations of the characters minutest hiccoughs. (Notice the old-world spelling; so suave).

It would not surprise me to hear that a stage presentation of an all-hip-hop interpretation of Ulysses was headed for off-off-Broadway. Maybe already done.

There is a remarkable gent named Jorn Barger who has done the most incredible accumulating of Joyce related info on the web that it makes a person wonder how he could possibly have the time to breathe. It contains full texts of much of Joyces works. You can take a look here:

James Joyce at Robot Wisdom

He calls his site robotwisdom because he is an artificial intelligence specialist. If you have nothing to do for the rest of your life you can spend it on the rest of his site.

If you have been planning for years to read Ulysses, Bloomsday activities are a great way to get in the swing of it.

If you have not been planning to read Ulysses, whatever in the world are you doing thats more important than that?

Tracing the Origin of Ancient Sumerians

It is of considerable interest to trace where the ancient Sumerians emerged from because of their primary contribution to human civilization. It was suggested that Sumerians appeared in Southern Mesopotamia around five and half thousand years ago carrying with them the seeds of civilization. It was also suggested that they migrated from the west coast of India. The fact that they were not a local people is suggested by the fact that their language belongs to a completely different and isolated group. There are two further lines of investigation one may adopt to confirm this hypothesis. The first is to explore for other groups in India with a similar language and the second is to carry out a physical examination of the Sumerian skeletons as available at the present time to detect racial similarities.

In western India there are a number of tribal groups that have existed from ancient times. Today many live on the fringes of mainstream communities as exist in India today. The mainstream communities belong to either the Indo-Aryan or Dravidian linguistic groups. Sumerian does not belong to either. As regards the tribal, it is now fruitless to look for any similarities between Sumerian and present tribal languages in India because over thousands of years their original languages have disappeared because of the overwhelming influence of other languages. The western tribal communities of India now speak modified versions or mixtures of the mainstream languages. However, all is not lost because although the tribal in India such as kols and Bheels have been overly influenced, it is not so with some of their branches that migrated further east towards Australia in ancient times, and form a branch of the same human groups. One may then look for similarities between Sumerian and Austric languages. This study has in fact been already done and the consensus is a resounding, yes. The austric languages are indeed similar to ancient Sumerian. The similarities are so numerous and clear that they are beyond doubt or a result of any chance coincidence. (The Austric Origin of the Sumerian Language, Language Form, vol. 22, no.1-2, Jan.-Dec. 1996.)

Therefore now it may be said with confidence that ancient Sumerian is not a linguistic isolate. It belongs to the australoid/ austric group of languages. They belong to this group because the ancient tri bal people of Indian west coast also belonged to the same group of people, and it is from here that they must have migrated to Mesopotamia. Both the Australoid and Austric type are found in India. There are clear reasons to rule out any other location for the Sumerian migration: Western India is geographically close to Southern Mesopotamia as compared to south East Asia and Australia and there are no know instances of civilization east of the Indus valley around five thousand years ago. Such evidence has been found in the Indus valley.

The second study concerns physical examination of Sumerian skulls. Buxton and Rice have fou nd that of 26 Sumerian crania they examined 22 were Australoid or Austrics. Further According to Penniman who studied skulls from other Sumerian sites, the Australoid Eurafrican, Austric and Armenoid were the racial types associated with the Sumerians. Here is Penniman's description of the Austric type found at Sumer:

These people are of medium stature, with complexion and hair like those of the Eurafrican, to which race they are allied with dark eyes, a nd oval faces, broad noses, rather feeble jaws, and slight sinewy bodies.

This description also closely describes the regal person seen on a famous clay tablet from the Indus Valley. This same tribe in an evolved version undoubtedly established the Indus civilization as well as the Sumerian one after the submergence of their coastal cities. In North-western India they would have encountered Neolithic people of Indo-European origin with which manpower they established the Indus cities. An analysis of skeletal remains from Indus valley confirms this mixture. Both the IndoSumerian-austric language must then have persisted side b y side as in Mesopotamia with the official language of the rulers being IndoSumerian-austric. Just as in Mesopotamia, ancient Sumerian was replaced by the language of the majority(Akkadians) in the Indus valley it would have been replaced eventually by an Indo-Aryan language. At what precise moment in history this occurred is not certain but most probably the Sumerian language disappeared from India by 2000 BC. In this latter case there was no question of pres erving it for ritual purposes either. This is because the IndoSumerian-Austric language never developed as a fully written language in India to inscribe full texts. In any case, a better Indo-Aryan language with its own full-fledged script soom emerged probably because of Hittite influences in the Indian sub-continent around that time.

Contribution of Armenians to ancient civilization

In the Indus valley from which the Sumerians emerged there were other tribes that lived in close proximity of the Austric Sumerians. These were prehistoric indo-Aryan tribes of an Armenian origin followers of the God Ara. The indo Aryans were fair skinned and light haired. Hence the reason for the indo-Sumerians to label themselves as dark headed in comparison to the Ara people who were shining. Sumerians also began using the word Ara for fair and bright and eventually they labeled all indo-Aryan people as Ara or Arya. The word Armenian has its origin in AR-MA, i.e. the children of Ara and Ma the fertility Goddess.

Later indo-Aryan migrations of around 1500BC into the Indus regions were apparently of Hittite origin. Apparently, some intermarriage also took place between these indo-Sumerians and Armenians probably leading to a more vigorous community then would have been possible otherwise. A physical marriage also resulted in a marriage of the religious traditions of the Sumerian and Armenian tribes as well as the Sumerian language being influenced by Armenian. Such influences can be found by comparisons between the Armenian (or even Hungaria n that emerged from ancient Armenian) and Sumerian language. Are was the Sun God and the roots of sun worship in the world appear to have an Aryan origin rather than a Sumerian one. Archaeologists refer to Transcaucasus region, including modern Armenia, as the earliest known prehistoric culture in the area, carbon-dated to roughly 6000 - 4000 BC. A recently discovered tomb has been dated to 9000 BC. Another early culture in the Armenian Highland and surrounding areas, the Kura-Araxes culture, is assigned the period of ca. 4000 - 2200 BC. Armenians are one of the oldest Indo-European subgroups. Therefore, it is not surprising that f rom amongst the Aryans it was the Armenians who spread around the ancient world of Mesopatomia and Indus valley first. The Hittite Aryans that became more powerful than the Armenians by 1500 BC were close neighbors and racial cousins of the Armenians, at times clashing with them and at times co-existing, yet probably gaining form the interaction at all times.

Buxton and Rice have found that of 26 Sumerian crania they examined 22 were Australoid or Austrics and four armennoid. Further According to Penniman who studied skulls from other Sumerian sites, the Australoid Eurafrican, Austric and Armenoid were the racial types associ ated with the Sumerians. Certainly it cannot be confirmed without further investigation if the Sumerian-Armenian alliance took place on Sumerian or Indian soil. It is also not certain if it was a forced or voluntary one. The fair skinned Armenian ladies are likely to have regarded the dark broad nosed Sumerians as ugly. Nevertheless, it may be deduced that the earliest Sumerians who introduced civilization in our world were around 85% Austric and 15% Armenian Aryans.

It is surprising that one of the most significant contributions to mankind should come from the Austric/australoid races. Elsewhere their contribution has not been remarkable. However, apparently a small genetic change is all that is necessary for this achievement. Similar races have illustrated that this can happen elsewhere as well. An example of that is Angkor Vat of Cambodia that illustrates technical mastery on an unprecedented scale, noted for its architectural and artistic perfection, not to mention its sheer size, Angkor Vat is the most famous and no doubt the most remarkable of all of ancient temples with ext raordinary architectural and artistic innovations, one of the grandest achievements of mankind.

Lance Rants about Blaming the US for Muslim Hate on Western World

There are some in the Western World who actually believe the Al Jazeera rhetoric claiming that the United States did not win the heArts and minds of the Muslim people but rather furthered the rift and created a larger divide. These folks blame the US for the culture clash and divide. In fact one political and news analyst wrote;

The invasion of Iraq and the underlying aggressive rhetoric against Iran is what helped galvanise the Iranians behind Ahmadinejad against a perceived threat from the US next door and in Afghanistan and with bases in Tadjikistan and other central Asian republics.

Well perhaps it was a point of contention, but the current leadership rigged the elections and used extortion tactics to get elected, further rallied the nut cases to their cause and the real problem is the radical f undamentalism kill all the Jews hate battle cry. It is similar to the hate speech by the liberals against the President of the United States. Just a bunch of dumb humans running around in all their sound and fury, they will act out no matter what we do. He further states;

Considering that the US is already fomenting unrest in Iran by sending in special forces to support opposition groups, it is hardly surprising that the Iranians in turn are supporting the Shias in Iraq and the insurgency.

Irrelevant the Iranians stArted it and you cannot negotiate with Terrorist Regimes, so we must take out the leadership, destroy their military assets, nuclear weapons programs and decimate two-thirds of their army to stabilize the region with equal forces to insure Iraq can move on and that Iran cannot fulfill its p romise to blow Israel off the map or fund international terrorists to hit Western World civilian targets.

I cannot buy into blaming the US for typical and consistent bad behavior or lies coming from the Nation States leadership which sponsors international terrorism as a way to promote their version of the world onto ours. Consider this in 2006.
